I want to extend an extremely hearty and overwhelmed thank you to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SWFA) for their generous monetary support to mitigate the burden placed on me and my family by my stage 4 breast cancer treatment. I’m not sure who’s stopping by to see this, so if you’re new around these parts and want to read an in-depth description of my story, this blog’s the place. You can start at the first entry.
For those who have been reading the blog longer but are not familiar with the SFWA, it is the foremost organization for science fiction and fantasy writers. I was honored to be accepted into it with the publication of my sci-fi short story “When Alya Met Rigel” in April 2016 by the magazine AE: The Canadian Science Fiction Review. Since its publication, AE suffered a hacking attack and their server went down. They’re in the process of re-opening, and I’m not sure if the story will be made available again online. However, I’ve posted it on Instafreebie, if you’re interested in reading it, but you will need to download it to a digital eBook reader.
Back to the SFWA. This is an organization that’s been around since the 1960s, and it’s been home to some of the biggest names in the genres. They advocate for their members, provide writing resources, and hand out a prestigious award called the Nebula. Although receiving the funds could perhaps be defended as just something they do as part of their mission, I’m still so grateful and humbled that the members and associates of the Emergency Medical Fund committee found in my favor. It is a big relief to get this gift, and it will definitely go a long way to getting me back on my feet writing again.
Once again, thank you so very much.
